Casual Work and COVID-19
These last 12 months have been tough for everyone at Latrobe from bush fires to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially casual and agency staff who were forcibly stood down without pay and unable to claim job keeper.

The Latrobe Council Annual report states that council currently employs 840 full-time and part-time staff.

Through the pandemic, council stood down their 242 casual staff.

These numbers show that 30% of staff at Latrobe Council are the most vulnerable and insecure and are always first to go!

This needs to stop now!

If you are casual, have worked consistent hours over the last 6-12 months, and want better job security, the ASU may be able to assist you by using the casual conversion clause in the EBA to convert you to become permanent full or part-time. 2021 Enterprise Bargaining Agreement
The ASU will start preparing to negotiate your new agreement in the new year. For those that don’t know, the EBA is what locks in your pay and conditions for the next 1,2,3 or 4 years.

Your ASU Delegates from the depot, transfer station and leisure along with an ASU Organiser will be at the negotiating table and we want ASU members in other areas (libraries, home care, offices, etc) to elect a delegate to represent your area.
