From all staff at the ASU VicTas branch we hope you had a safe and Merry Christmas, New Years and we hope 2019 is even better!

Continuing on from late last year, the unions met formally with Knox Council management to initiate bargaining.  Our respective logs of claims were presented and we have had 2 meetings with those claims on the table.

These two meetings have basically been spent talking through our respective claims.  It’s fair to say that the Unions and management have started a long way apart and we have some distance to travel if we are looking to reach agreement. Hey, that’s what enterprise bargaining is!

You can download the employer log of claims so you can see for yourself what management are looking to change, reduce and remove from the agreement. This along with offering a 2% per annum increase. The ASU’s log of claims is also available to download.

The ASU would like to make it very clear to our members that we will not be accepting any condition or entitlement that is lesser than what you are currently getting now.

There has been a little robust discussion in these two meetings so far but nothing significant to report on just yet.

We have another planned meeting on Wednesday 30th of January and I expect things to start getting a little more exciting from then on. We will put out updates as frequently as possible in the coming months and will have member meetings when we need direction from the membership.

We strongly encourage all members to attend these meetings and chat to your colleagues about our newsletters. Share them in lunchrooms or on noticeboards. There is absolutely no harm in having too much information, especially with your working conditions and entitlements.

The ASU is still yet to meet with Home & Community Care workers and School Crossing Supervisors to formulate their log of claims. We will endeavour to do this as soon as possible.
