Unfortunately, Kingston Council has decided to again muddy the waters with unclear, misleading representations of their offer in an email sent on Friday.
To reiterate what was in the previous ASU newsletter, the wage percentage comparisons we provided are for the current year, as these are the most accurate and relevant points of comparison. Kingston has sought to confuse matters by:
- listing rates of pay for the previous four years, when inflation was much lower as well as the pandemic meant average increases were lower. As stated in our newsletter, and as is correct, the increase for this year for Many Council is 3.5%
- Avoiding listing the actual pay increase where rate cap applies. The rate cap is 3.5% for this year, meaning Kingston’s offer falls behind many other Councils.
Kingston Leisure
- Council claims that they are excessively overpaid; Council is predominantly comparing to the private sector which we know has lesser pay and conditions. See below table for other Council run services
Hume | $43.57 |
Stonnington | $41.84 |
Maribyrnong | $41.76 |
Yarra Council | $38.36 |
Kingston | $38.31 with an increase to $39.63 if EA voted up |
Unfortunately, Council feels this justifies lowering standards for one group of workers at Council.
For the purpose of clear and fair comparison, these are for the CURRENT year’s pay rate, they are assuming a band 2A, and they are with casual loading of 25% included.
As previously stated, what we have stated can be verified with information available on the FairWork Commission website and is not a selective rendering of data.
All Kingston Council employees deserve a better offer that helps with cost of living. Let Council know their offer is unacceptable – voting opens today – VOTE NO
