The ASU is angry at Council’s unilateral decision to postpone bargaining until early 2021 and to not pass on any wage increase in July 2020.
This is a breach of good faith bargaining.
Contrary to what the General Manager’s all-staff email stated, management failed to consult with the ASU, or any of the bargaining representatives, about their decision. In fact, we were only made aware of the email 20 minutes before the General Manager met with some of the bargaining representatives. A meeting which the ASU was not invited to.
The ASU wrote yesterday to Kingborough Council to advise them that their behaviour breaches good faith bargaining principles in several ways.
We have requested that Council return to the bargaining table by no later than Friday 12 June 2020. If Council refuses our request we will be pursuing our options through the Fair Work Commission.
We will keep you updated as to Council’s response.
