Last week, the ASU wrote to the general manager at Kentish and Latrobe Councils following a damning survey of members, which showed rampant bullying and harassment across both Councils.
Our letter calls on Mr Monson to invite an independent external party to assess the culture of the workplace and investigate the concerns raised in our survey.
One employee experiencing bullying and harassment is more than enough to take action on behalf of. Here we have a significant portion of the workforce advising they have felt bullied or harassed at work. The GM must act.
We are waiting on a formal response from the GM on his return from leave, but initial defensive responses to the media by Mayor Freshney from Latrobe Council don’t bode well for the Councils taking the appropriate action.
We’re lead to believe that the Minister for Local Government has asked to Director of Local Government to get involved, but we’re yet to hear anything formally.
We’ll keep you updated as things progress.
