The ASU is keeping the pressure on the Victorian Government about the unfair wages caps that affect wages of local government workers.
Branch Secretary Lisa Darmanin didn’t hold back recently in the Sunday Herald Sun about politicians pay increases while they are holding down workers’ wages. You can read the story here.
The Victorian Government’s wages policy is to supress wage growth in the Victorian public sector to no more than 2% each year.
And since the introduction of rate capping average wage increases across Victoria in local government have been 2% per year.
This is bad for workers and bad for the Victorian economy.
Our position is simple: workers should be able to bargain with their employer in good faith to achieve fair pay rises.
We will keep fighting against the Victorian Government’s policies that suppress wage growth. But until we are successful, we expect politicians to live by the same rules they set for everyone else.
