On the 21st of May your ASU will be supporting Victorian school students as they strike for real action on climate change.
You can individually pledge your support to the strike as an ASU member here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ASUSchoolStrike
Australian workers need a safe climate with secure jobs. But inaction from the Federal Government means we are being left behind in the fight for a safe future. Already, we have seen the devastating outcomes of climate change on communities all around the country and around the world.
Last year we saw many of our members who work in outdoor areas impacted by extreme heat waves, and unworkable air quality caused by bushfire smoke. If the Federal Government does not act, extreme weather events like this will only get worse. This hurts frontline workers more than anyone.
If you have the day off on the 21st of May, or, your employer has allowed leave to attend the march, I’d strongly encourage you to march with students from Treasury Gardens at 1pm.
If you would like to march with the ASU, we are meeting at the Trades Hall Victoria Street Entrance at 12:30pm. You can also sign the ASU pledge to support the school strike here.
And if you are outside metro Melbourne, you can find details of regional School Strike 4 Climate events here.
Climate change is a workers’ issue – it’s working people, our families, our communities, and our future generations who will bear the brunt if we do not see action from the Federal Government now.
The ASU proudly supports the students who are stepping up and demanding real and immediate action to tackle climate change.
Our future is in good hands when we have young activists all around the country standing together to secure a better future for our country, climate, workers and communities.
We have always been, and will always be by the side of young people fighting for a better future.
