Your new enterprise agreement has now been certified by the Fair Work Commission; however, it was not smooth sailing to get there.

For an agreement to be certified by the Fair Work it must meet the better off overall test (BOOT). The ASU raised a few concerns and Fair Work also picked up several issues with your agreement.

What this means is Boroondara had to agree to 8 separate undertakings before Fair Work would agree to certify your agreement.

The good news is there were some additional wins for ASU members because of this and some of the wins are as follows:

  • Specific Engagement employees’ ordinary spread of hours will be 5am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday
  • Home Carers can be paid for travel time beyond 15mins

Please see full list of undertakings here.

I am sure you will join me in giving a big thank-you to all your elected ASU delegates who put in a lot of work throughout the bargaining process, and also a big thank you to all ASU members for your feedback and participation. Well done!

In the meantime, encourage your workmates to join the ASU so we can have a stronger voice for workers at Boroondara City Council. It’s easy for anyone who is not yet a member to join online at
