ASU Officers and Delegates attended a Consultation Committee yesterday 1 July with Hume management.

Council have confirmed that with the new State Government restrictions/lockdown in place until the end of July, there will be no full-time/part-time staff stood down during this period. Council have committed to finding alternative duties for those affected staff during this lockdown period.

Sadly, casual workers will pay the price for this second lockdown. Please contact your manager or HR to see what other alternative duties they can find for you.

The ASU again raised the matter regarding the amount of labour-hire been engaged by Council, with the concern being the high number in customer service roles. The ASU has made it quite clear this practice needs to stop, and these positions need to be made permanent.

Council has been successful in obtaining funding for the Working for Victoria program. This initiative has been made possible, in no small part, from the trade union movement working with the State Government to find meaningful work for people who have lost their jobs during this pandemic.

The ASU encourages casual members to apply for these roles, which will be full-time, for at least six months. Get in touch with the HR Department for more information.

They will be paid the wages and conditions in the EBA and, more importantly, they will not be replacing any existing positions or doing work normally done by Council staff.

The State Government advice remains, if you can work from home you should continue working from home. Please ensure that you complete your working from home application as per Council policy.

The ASU has raised the issue of some staff been requested to fill out weekly plan templates. There does not seem to be a uniformed approach to this. Working from home is based on trust, not micro-management.

ASU Officials and Delegates will continue to meet regularly with Council to discuss how members are managing during this difficult time and raise any matters of concern.

The ASU also advise members to be careful using social media during this period.

Please share this notice with your colleagues and encourage non-members to join the ASU.

The ASU, as always, ARE BY YOUR SIDE
