The ASU and your delegates have been having meaningful consultation and negotiations with Hume City Council management over the past week to avoid mass standing down of staff.

The ASU has reached agreement on several matters during this unprecedented crisis.

Staff in Leisure Centres and Libraries, and some other departments which have closed to the public due to Government restrictions, have been allocated to a roster and now have better options to keep to regular employment with a range of alternative duties during this crisis.

We welcome this major change from the Hume City Council, who still have a duty of care towards all employees. The ASU will continue to work together, with Council, and will have regular meetings with delegates and management over the weeks and months ahead.

Through these negotiations, 3 group rosters have been developed. A letter was sent last week, to affected staff, indicating which roster they have been allocated to (if you are affected, and haven’t received a letter, please contact HR as a matter of urgency).

Group A will be paid two weeks special leave and use two weeks of Annual Leave and return to work in May.

Group B has been provided other alternative duties for the next four weeks starting from today (Tuesday 14 April) after the four weeks you will then be paid two weeks special leave and use two weeks of Annual Leave and return to work in June.

Group C are those staff with little or no Annual leave that will be paid one week’s special leave and use one week of Annual Leave and return to work in April.

An expectation of the ASU is that the Centre Managers and Coordinators also form part of the Group A, B and C work/leave rotations.

The ASU is working hard with Council to avoid any standing down of staff and ensuring that your Delegates are continually consulted during this difficult period.

Please continue to send any other suggestions for other alternative work to HR and your delegates.

We still have a long way to go over the next few weeks and months ahead, so speak to your ASU Delegates and encourage non-members to join the ASU which is fighting hard for everyone.

Please circulate this newsletter to all other staff members and put on your notice boards and in your lunchrooms.
