Australian Services Union (ASU) Organisers and Delegates are concerned about the proposal to amalgamate Libraries and Customer Service. The Union and Council agree that this proposal is subject to the Major Change provisions of the Enterprise Agreement (EA).

Your union is here to support you in the consultation process. Members and potential members identified that this process may have implications for Position Descriptions, Classification/Banding and Hours of Work.

Our advice to members and potential members is:

  1. If you want to raise an issue confidentially then please ask your ASU Delegate to speak on your behalf.
  2. Our enterprise agreement (EA) includes the principle that your right to participate is respected. If you do not feel respected please seek support from ASU.
  3. Speak up. You know what is in the best interests of your workgroup and ratepayers. ASU is here to ensure that your knowledge and experience is valued.
  4. Check with ASU. If there are changes to your PD then we can represent you in the consultation about it.

What is at stake?
This proposal may have a major impact on the Council’s workforce plan, your career and your skills. We are concerned about the impact on hours of work, training/retraining and opportunities for promotion.

What can we do?
The ASU has written to Council seeking further detail. We know that there are more meetings for groups and individuals in August. ASU Delegates and Organisers can represent you in these meetings. We are putting this proposal on the agenda for Staff Consultative Committee so that we are by your side for the long term.
