ASU is concerned about the proposal that Council monitors telephone calls. There has not been any consultation or agreement with ASU about this. We surveyed members.
The results are here:
- Are you happy about call monitoring/spying?
Yes – 1% | No – 99%
- Would you be happier if there was independent monitoring?
Yes – 43% | No – 57%
- Do you think it would be fairer if you were notified BEFORE being recorded?
Yes – 88% | No – 12%
- Would self-initiated recording be reasonable?
Yes – 76% | No – 24%
We are writing to management. We want to meet with them and raise concerns on behalf of members. It is clear that a majority of the workforce is deeply critical of this. We believe that this proposal needs to be reviewed and improved. A better way forward would be an independent expert complaint handling body to do a review involving genuine consultation with the workforce.
