For over a year now it has been widely known and accepted by BSL management that a significant number of workers had been underpaid. This underpayment was discovered by the ASU as part of the negotiation process for a new enterprise agreement.
Since then, most members have received a back payment but the details on how these payments were calculated are insufficient and members have been forced to request further details. Strangely enough, some members even report being put on a lower pay scale since the debacle was uncovered without explanation.
Members are reporting difficulties in obtaining the breakdown of back pay, deciphering whether the information if provided is correct and also understanding their classification.
- Have you been effected by what can only be described as an incompetent pay system?
- Are you concerned your back pay was calculated incorrectly?
If you answered yes to either of these questions then you need to attend an ASU membership meeting coming to your worksite soon. Your ASU Organiser and Delegates will be explaining the process we propose to undertake to finally get this issue sorted for members. A separate newsletter will be issued soon detailing the dates and times of the meetings.
The ASU will be requesting an audit of members back pay and seeking further information regarding classifications.
It is important to note that only ASU members will have access to this service and potential further back payments if the audit reveals incorrect calculations.
The ASU help you and your co-workers deal with issues as they arise at your workplace – either individually or as a group – and campaign to improve the conditions for workers.
If you are not yet a member of the ASU and wish to be represented on this issue you must join now. Joining is quick and easy and can be done online here
