Did you see the Geelong Advertiser yesterday? Your employer was featured for standing down almost 600 of your workmates in a heartless and irresponsible move. Local MPs have written to Geelong Council demanding that they reinstate the workers, and stop taking advantage of the coronavirus crisis. If you have a subscription to the Advertiser you can read the article here.

CoGG Executive Management met this morning in an emergency meeting to discuss a response to the issues and demands raised by the ASU and MPs. We understand they are working on a solution, and hope to have details soon to provide.”

We’re also holding another member meeting to discuss the next steps in the campaign to get these employees reinstated. If you know anyone who is impacted, make sure you forward this email to them.

ASU leadership have written to the Premier and to the Local Government Minister to demand that Councils be directed to keep people in employment. In response, the Minister has called on Local Councils to avoid sacking and standing down workers. The State and the Federal Government agree that the most important thing right now is to keep people in work, for CoGG to stand down almost 20% of its workforce shows that they are more concerned about their own pockets than the community.
