Between them Frankston City Council Aged Care workers, Wendy Thomas, Nerina Dean and Gillian Dejong have 23 years’ experience as ASU delegates.
They have a passion for ensuring fairness and equality is afforded to all members, not just a few, and believe in being a part of the change they want to see in their workplace
For all of them, stepping up to be delegates seemed to be the right thing to do to make sure this happens.
Recently all three delegates have been involved in meeting with management to turn around an ad hoc uniform arrangement.
They achieved a commitment of a minimum number of garments being made available to each employee.
In addition they have had a significant win with management now agreeing to a trial allowing workers to bring forward client appointment times in certain circumstances, ending the frustrating problem of having to fill in hours at a time between clients in the event of a cancellation.
Wendy, Gillian and Nerina want to work in an environment where workers are respected and treated fairly and they know that being involved is the only way to make that happen.
They encourage anyone who is thinking about becoming a delegate to get in touch with their ASO Organiser or the Member Contact Centre on 1300 855 570 and become a part of the change in your worksite.
