The ASU has been advised by concerned members that some of you who work weekend shifts are being told to use your annual leave entitlements to cover the closure for the Saturday and Sunday during the Christmas – New Year break.
This request is incorrect and goes against your entitlements in your current EA.
The ASU have written to CEO Dennis Hovenden to advise the following:
Under Clause 33.1 of the Frankston City Council Enterprise Agreement No. 8 (2016) it states “Council offices and work locations will close between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and employees are entitled to be absent from the workplace on such days without deduction of pay or leave.” This is a clear entitlement to paid leave for this period. In addition, the taking of annual leave should be at a time mutually agreed between employer and employee.
The ASU office has requested CEO Dennis Hovenden correctly inform the leadership team that employees are entitled to take this period off without having to access their leave entitlements or any reduction to their pay and to respond to this matter in the next five working days.
