There have been several meetings that have taken place between the ASU and your Employer; however we are yet to commence negotiation on specific log items.
We have predominately spent meetings working through claims and seeking clarification, additional information and specific wording as well as explanations about specific claims. This is critical to ensure that we have all the information prior to negotiations.
The ASU has also provided specific wording for proposed clauses, these include fixed term employment conversion, cultural ceremonial leave, family definition, family violence and bi-lingual staff allowance.
Both parties are eager to progress negotiations so meetings were scheduled for the 10th and 17th of December and dates are also locked in for the New Year.
As previously mentioned there are several items of concern from the employer log of claims- there appears to be a push to insert ‘model’ clauses in place of current clauses. This almost always results in a reduction of conditions; this is evident with Consultation Procedure and Disciplinary process. Other alarming proposals are a reduction to overtime and changes to sick leave accrual to a flat 15 days as opposed to a gradual increase.
Now that we have concluded information sharing, once we commence negations we will be in a position to report back to members regarding the employer’s position on ASU log items.
