We have received reports from members that Flight Centre management are calling employees into meetings where they are being forced onto performance improvement plans. It’s important that you know your rights when it comes to meeting with your management team.
Did you know that you can request to have your union representative present at any meeting with management in which you feel their presence is warranted. Much of what we do as a union is representing individual members in meetings with management and throughout performance and disciplinary processes.
If you are called into a meeting with your manager and it feels a bit like you’ve been ambushed you can let your manager know that you would like your union representative present at the meeting. They should then postpone the meeting until such time as we are able to be there to represent you.
If, for instance, they fail to provide the opportunity for your representative to attend during a meeting which results in termination of your employment they would be in breach of the unfair dismissal laws set out in the Fair Work Act 2009.
Being in a union is about protecting yourself at work. Make sure you are getting the benefit out of your membership by using the service when you need it.
