The 1st of December is the day that you get your equal pay increase.
You get this because ASU members like you fought for it and won the equal pay case in 2012 that resulted in the handing down of the equal remuneration order ( ERO ) by the
Fair Work Commission.
This order was made to bring the largely feminised community sector workforce up to pay that is equivalent to that of an average male wage for similar work. There were 9 equal pay increases ordered, with the last increase to be handed down on 1 December 2020.
Unfortunately, this is all now under threat.
The Morrison Government has started to award service contracts to agencies that do not cover the ERO increases after 2020. This means that your agency will not be funded to cover the cost of the equal pay increase you won all those years ago.
Just to give you an idea of the amounts we are talking about the ERO wage increase ranges from 23% for a Band 2 right up to 45% for a Band 8.
You can imagine what would happen to the sector if the Morrison Government goes ahead with this cynical ploy.
It’s time to fight back!
Please talk with your colleagues about this issue and come along to the next ASU community sector campaign committee meeting.
