As the year comes to a close, we want to wish all members and their families a happy and safe holiday season.
The holiday period is a time when families and friends gather to celebrate or just to enjoy each other’s company. But many dedicated ASU members who provide the services Australians rely on every day will still be hard at work. And the Union will still be there to support them.
The union office will be closed on public holidays but between Christmas and New Year our Member Contact Centre will be staffed with a skeleton crew to support members with urgent matters. The Member Contact Centre can be contacted on 1300 855 570 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
This can be a difficult time of year for some members of our community. So if you or someone you know is having a particularly hard time, Lifeline provides 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. Lifeline’s confidential telephone crisis support service is available 24/7 on 13 11 14.
Next year we will keep working in the interest of all members of the union. As well as fighting for jobs and increasing bargaining standards, the union will be ramping up our fight against outsourcing and privatisation of the services ASU members provide and Australians rely on every day.
We have had some success getting the re-elected state government to agree to explore bringing outsourced services at water authorities back in-house. This is an important step in our fight against privatisation. In local government we will ramp up the fight against outsourcing of aged care services and against the rate capping policy that is putting quality services and secure jobs at risk. Together we can make change happen.
