On Tuesday 17 March the ASU met with CoGG representatives and officials from other Unions to discuss the EBA bargaining process in light of the impact of coronavirus on Council operations.
As it is no longer practical or advisable for mass meetings of members to take place to discuss and instruct the ASU on our bargaining position, all ASU member meetings have now been postponed until further notice.
As a result, during the meeting on Tuesday ASU Organiser Luke Cherry asserted that if the Union is unable to seek instruction from our members then bargaining cannot take place. This was agreed by management and subsequently, there will be no bargaining meetings until the Union is able to meet with members again, at which time it’s expected that the current schedule of meetings will recommence.
To ensure that ASU members are not disadvantaged by this delay in bargaining we are discussing and reviewing a number of options and are meeting again with management and other Unions next Tuesday (24 March) to consider how best to proceed.
Any decisions made by the ASU will be directed by the membership, so keep an eye out as this may need to be done via an online survey or teleconference or similar.
