The ASU protects, promotes and improves the working conditions and entitlements of our members. That’s why, following recent site visits by ASU Organiser Aaron De La Torre, ASU members at the Sorell Council depot voted unanimously to take the first step towards industrial action in pursuit of an acceptable enterprise agreement.
Negotiations have stalled on the claim for the additional 0.5% superannuation payment that members believe they should be entitled to in 2021 when the federal government increases the rate of superannuation for all other Australians but as Sorell Council currently pay above the minimum required by law they think it is reasonable to absorb the increase.
Members at the depot have taken this stand as they have decided that they won’t allow Council to erode your conditions any further. Last time it was the four day week for outdoor members, this time they won’t increase super for all employees. As a result, today our protected action ballot order was lodged with the Fair Work Commission. We will provide further updates as the situation progresses.
We are still hopeful that Council will make the right decision and agree to increase superannuation payments in line with the national increase so that we can call this off and accept the EA proposal. We await further communication from management.
