ASU officials and your ASU delegate team have been attending Consultation Committee meetings in regard to implementation of your new EA. For members’ interest here’s some highlights of key content covered:
- We are continuing to work through the matrix of outstanding matters to reach agreement on a range of policies to support relevant clauses in the new EA.
- Members across a range of departments continue to raise concerns about insecure work at Darebin. The ASU have been pursuing council for the number of external contractors, internal contractors and casuals been engaged at council.
Council have agreed to provide this information but are struggling to get the data. The ASU has requested that this data should be made available to us ASAP, what are they hiding? Watch this space – we will continue to prosecute this question until answered.
- ASU remind all Casuals directly employed by Council that under clause 30 of the EA “a casual employee who has been engaged by Council on a regular and systematic basis for a period of 12 months you may request to be converted to full-time or part-time employment. A request must be submitted in writing. Council may agree to or refuse the request. The request may only be refused on reasonable grounds and after there has been consultation with the Employee.” We encourage members to exercise this right and seek further advice and support from the union to ensure basic job security is upheld.
Seeking Additional Depot Delegates
Upon retirement of some delegates at the depot, ASU is seeking nominations for new delegates to cover all areas at the Depot. It is important to have delegates elected from all departments across the depot to ensure representation of all members and keep growing our membership.
