YSAS ASU Delegates met this week and discussed the additional risk that COVID exposure poses to some staff, even if they are fully vaccinated. It may be that you are concerned about passing the virus to an elderly parent, a young child, or someone with compromised immunity who you care for, for example. And with the state opening up again, we imagine it won’t be long before face-to-face client contact increases for many workers, which increases the risk of workplace exposure to COVID significantly.
Delegates resolved to ask management to commit to providing flexibility in such circumstances and today YSAS agreed to make reasonable adjustments to address COVID-related vulnerabilities and complexities, such as exempting specific workers from face-to-face client work in some circumstances.
To request these adjustments, you should:
- Speak with your line manager about the reason that you need adjustments to your work (including face-to-face client work);
- Request adjustments be made for a set period (adjustments will be approved 1-2 weeks at a time); and
- Notify your ASU Delegate that you have made the request and inform them of the outcome.
FYI – YSAS won’t accept a worker’s choice to not be vaccinated as a reason to make these adjustments.
Your delegates continue to deliver great outcomes for ASU Members at YSAS. If your site doesn’t have a delegate, is there someone there who you think would do it well? Contact ASU Organiser Tim Sullivan to nominate someone today.
