Ignoring the needs of older people who live independently at home, Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay councils have made behind closed doors decisions about in-home aged care services.
The decision by these councils to outsource aged care services is bad for dedicated workers and bad for the vulnerable older people who rely on their care and support.
We congratulate ASU delegates, members and carers for their perseverance and patience through what has been a trying time.
Our campaign brought considerable political and community pressure on councillors in the lead up to the decision.
There was absolutely no need for this decision, Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay could continue to provide essential in-home aged care services.
Our campaign will continue and we will highlight the value of Council Care through the Aged Care Royal Commission. We’ll also me making sure councillors know we will defend every single in-home aged care job.
The ASU will fight every day for high quality services and the hard working people who deliver them.
