ASU Organisers and Delegates have been in discussions with management regarding Flexible working Guidelines which they have introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects this has had on the workforce in a changing environment.

The Guidelines have a range of options that all staff can request to access if they suit your work/life balance as everyone’s circumstances will be different.

To be clear these Guidelines are not compulsory and are not enforceable by your manager.

Yes, your manager might have a conversation with you or your team about reducing your full-time regular weekly hours of work, but if this does not suit you due to your personal circumstances then you have a right to say NO. If your substantive position does require the current full-time rostered hours, Management could request that you redeploy to another department/unit.

Council have also requested that all EBA employees take a pay freeze for 1 July 2020 pay increase.

The ASU and your Delegates have rejected this request on the grounds that we have not been presented with any financial projections regarding Councils future Budget plans.

Council have also stated they have applied for funding from the working with Victoria State Government program; this will provide some work opportunities for those Casuals and contracted staffs that presently have no available work.

The ASU believes that working together during these difficult times can only lead to better outcomes for everyone, as we all have families and bills to pay, along with our mental health and wellbeing, and the City of Whittlesea still have a duty of care to all Employees.

The ASU and your Delegates will continue to meet regularly with Council on these matters.

We still have a long way to go over the next few weeks, so speak to your ASU Delegates and encourage non-members to join the ASU which is fighting hard for everyone.

Please circulate this newsletter to all other staff members and put on your notice boards and in your lunchrooms and encourage non-members to join their union.

The ASU, as always, is BY YOUR SIDE
