On the 22nd of August the ASU and Children’s Services delegates Monique Parkes, Maggie Cremin and Deidre Bell met with management to discuss the log of claims.
Below is an update on the following claims:
Claim number 87:
Program planning time for band 3 & 4 to receive 2 hours per week, band 5 to be increased to 4 hours per week
Management response: Managements position is that they are not in support of increasing planning time for band 5 or introducing planning time for band 3. Management informed the ASU and delegates that current practice is that band 5 already received 4 hours per week as it is. This does not align with the feedback we have been given from some members, including delegates at the table. Management did not display a clear understanding about what is happening across all centres and there is clearly an inconsistent approach from centre to centre. The ASU put to managers of the Children’s Services area that members feel strongly about Band 3 having their own planning time in order for critical reflection, professional development and observations of children. Band 5 educators feel that 2 hours per week is not enough, and in some instances equates to 4 mins per child. Management proposed for this issue to be managed as part of the Consultative Committee allowing for flexibility, however the ASU do not support this and it is not what members asked for. We expect a full response to this claim by next week and will continue to have further discussion with Council on this matter.
Claim number 88:
Claim for allowance to be paid to the trainer/teacher when university students train at council
Management Response: Agreed
Claim number 89:
Annual leave restrictions removed
Management response: Agreed
