The City of Melbourne has made it clear that there is an expectation that staff numbers at worksites should increase.

The City of Melbourne is currently reviewing Flexible Working Arrangements (FWAs) in many business areas. The Council have made it clear they want people back in the workplace. It is a frustrating approach, given the Council’s stated commitment to work-life balance, productivity and flexibility.

The law makes provisions that people have a right to request a Flexible Working Arrangement and they cannot reasonably be refused. It doesn’t have to be a working from home arrangement. There are all sorts of flexibility arrangements that could improve your work-life balance.

If you have applied for an FWA and it has been unreasonably refused by your manager or reasons have not been provided in writing within 14 days, you can contact your ASU delegate or the Member Contact Centre on 1300 855 570. They can provide you with advice about how you might be able to contest this decision.
