Reprieve for Hume City Council Workers until 14 April 2020

ASU officials, along with the intervention of Broadmeadows MP Frank McGuire, this morning had a meeting with the CEO regarding the proposed standing down of employees.

The CEO has agreed to rescind the Hume CC decision to stand-down employees which was delivered to staff by video link on Tuesday 30 March 2020.

Nobody will be stood-down between now and until after Easter 2020.

In the meantime, the CEO has also agreed to have meaningful discussions/negotiations with your ASU officials and ASU Delegates.

Hume City Council will be contacting all staff asking for ideas from employees over the next few days in exploring other alternates of meaningful work that employees could do in the coming weeks ahead. They will also be asking for employees to register their skill sets to see if you can be redeployed into other roles at Hume and to assist other community groups based at Hume City Council.

The CEO has also asked that those staff with excessive outstanding Annual leave to consider reducing that Annual leave; this will enable other staff with little or no leave accrued to be redeployed into other areas at Hume City Council.

The ASU, along with your ASU Delegate Team, who have advocated very strongly to be consulted around these major changes in this COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, welcome these changes.

The ASU believes that, by working together during these trying times, it will only lead to better outcomes for everyone as we all have families to feed and bills to pay, along with our mental health and wellbeing. Hume City Council still has a duty of care to all Employees.

We still have a long way to go over the next few weeks, so speak to your ASU Delegates and encourage non-members to join the ASU which is fighting hard for everyone.

Please circulate this newsletter to all other staff members and put on your notice boards and in your lunchrooms and encourage non-members to join their union.
