The ASU takes workplace health and safety extremely seriously. We maintain that getting home from work safely each day of your working life to be a goal that we should all aspire to.
Health and Safety Representatives are the eyes and ears of safety at your workplace. They are elected by you and represent you in all matters related to your health, safety and wellbeing on a day to day basis.
The ASU welcome the new Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) who have recently been elected across Council. Congratulations to all of those elected by their Designated Work Groups.
In consultation with Council, a HSR has the right to choose their own approved training provider as per section 67 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.
All elected HSRs have a right to WorkSafe approved Health & Safety Representative Initial OHS Training Courses (five days) and every twelve months a Health & Safety Representative Refresher OHS Training Course (one day).
The ASU schedules several Health & Safety Representative Training Courses each year in our Carlton office, please see attached training calendar.
The ASU regularly delivers Health and Safety training across Victorian Councils. The five day WorkSafe approved HSR course can be delivered onsite at Darebin and can be split into 3 days one week and two days the following week to suit operational requirements.
The ASU is a WorkSafe approved provider of Health and Safety training. Over many years we have tailored our training to meet the specific needs of the industries we represent.
Our training for Local Government HSR’s is second to none. It is specifically delivered to be relevant to Local Government workplaces. Using examples from across the sector in the training allows representatives to understand how their role applies to them in real life terms.
Please circulate this newsletter to all other staff members and put on your notice boards and in your lunch rooms and encourage non-members to join their union
