Following a meeting with local representatives from all three unions last week, the unions had a telephone conference with management regarding the enterprise agreement negotiations and management’s position on the COVID -19 crisis.

The parties have agreed to temporarily suspend negotiations whilst management reviews its position considering the current situation. At present management have completely withdrawn all offers on the table.

An agreement has been reached to meet again soon and review the parties positions. It is important to note that bargaining has not been abandoned, merely postponed allowing the parties to review their positions.

The parties also had an extensive discussion around business implications of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The important takeaway from the meeting was management’s commitment to keep the business functioning and people in jobs. The ASU has sought better communication and consultation on measures being implemented as a result of the pandemic and received agreement on this.

Members should be aware that whilst members may be encouraged to take leave, there is no capacity for leave to be directed, except in the case of an employee having excessive leave. Members have been very alert to situations where proper consultation is required with the union and employees and have brought matters to our attention. The ASU took the opportunity to remind management of its responsibilities to consult when making decisions that affect our employees and this was acknowledged.

We wish all our members the best in these trying times
