The transfer of staff to Fire Rescue Victoria is complete. ASU fought for members’ rights right up until the last minute, with discussions before Commissioner McKinnon at the Fair Work Commission on Tuesday.
We are in ongoing discussions with CFA around the unresolved matters and will seek to set up consultation arrangements with FRV Management.
With so many staff leaving CFA, members have raised concerns about increases in workload for those staff who have remained. This will need to be closely monitored in the coming weeks and months. We urge any members who have additional work allocated to them to contact the Union as soon as this occurs.
Update your details
With all the changes underway, now is a good time for the ASU to do a stocktake of our membership database, to ensure we have your current details. In particular, we need to know if you have transferred to FRV, but remaining staff are encouraged to update their details too.
ASU Fire and Emergency Services Sub-Group
We are still keen to hear from anyone who wants to be involved in ASU Fire and Emergency Services. This is a subgroup of ASU members within CFA and FRV who will meet regularly to discuss issues and to plan for the future. It will be run by members for members and will liaise with union officials to implement its agenda.
The ASU is keen to ensure that delegate and active member groups are representative of our membership. This includes promoting and facilitating the role of women in the union and the workplace, a key priority for ASU. As such, we strongly encourage women to get involved in this group. It is there to represent our membership, and we are keen to ensure we have gender balance and strong representation for and by women.
