With the passing of the Fire Services Reform legislation recently, the Victorian Government will be pressing ahead with the creation of Fire Rescue Victoria.
The ASU has sought more detailed information from the CFA and from emergency services minister Lisa Neville around exactly what this will mean for the future structure of CFA, and for ASU members in particular.
In broad terms, operational fire fighters will be moving to the new entity, while PTA and DMO/TO staff will remain at CFA. However, the legislation provides ministerial discretion to transfer roles on a case by case basis. This is not well defined and we are seeking greater detail on the likely extent of this.
The timelines indicate that transition will happen in mid 2020, but it is not yet clear if this means staff will transfer then, or if this is just the commencement of the transition process.
We will provide more detail to members as it comes to hand.
