Australian Services Union representatives met with the Cardinia bargaining team on Wednesday 8 April. This was our fourth negotiation.

We talked about the impact of COVID -19 on negotiations. Everyone agreed that job security is a shared goal.

Council’s position is to put negotiations on hold for six months. This is alarming because our current Agreement is meant to operate until 30 June 2020, not 30 December 2020. This will mean that staff will not receive a pay increase for 18 months.

ASU representatives’ position is that our members are ratepayers too and this delay in pay is a real burden.

We raised that you are all working hard to maintain as many services as possible and we want you all there to reopen the full range of council services when this health crisis eases.

ASU Members at Wellington Shire have just voted on a three-year Agreement for 2% or $25. We are negotiating a 12-month extension with a payrise at East Gippsland Shire.

The ASU made sure that the Council position be put in writing so that our leadership and lawyers can review the details. We received this at the end of the day on Thursday 9 April.

The ASU is seeking your thoughts on this incredibly difficult situation.

The ASU is writing to management on Monday 20 April. If you have any questions or points to put in the union letter then you can call/text/email your ASU Organiser Cindy O’Connor on or 0417 55 11 24 by midday Monday.

The ASU, as always, is BY YOUR SIDE
