Brimbank EBA Approval
The ASU has asked the Fair Work Commission about the status of approval of the Brimbank EBA. The Commission cannot provide timeframes on how long the approval process will take.
The delay is beyond control of the ASU. As soon as we have been informed of certification we will inform members.
Brimbank Delegate Meetings
After many representations to your employer, Brimbank have agreed to paid union delegate meetings. These meetings will occur on a bimonthly bases, one week prior to the consultative meeting and broken into specific workgroups- for example; Operation centre, Civic centre, Library and Home care.
Delegate meetings are critical for delegates to perform their role.
The employer expressed concerns that consultative meetings will be used to raised matter which fall outside of its parameters. The consultative committee has the big task ahead of consolidating Part A and Part B of the enterprise agreement. We have made a commitment to adhere to the purpose of the Consultative committee.
A two month review will be implemented to ensure this set up is working.

Parks WWCC (Working with children checks)
The ASU has recently received the information requested regarding the worksites which require WWCC. The list does not appear as extensive as initially discussed as such have requested a further consultation. A meeting was held with ASU delegates Tyson Fell and Adam Lewis with ASU organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio, we will be holding a report back meeting with member, this meeting will be paid;
Friday 15 February at 7am at the Keilor Depot.

Annual Leave Loading Cap
Members alerted the ASU there was a view that capping of annual leave loading within Waste services and workshop was being applied. The capping of Annual leave loading should not be applied to “outdoor” staff. We have collected several examples from member and have provided this information to Human Resources. We have received a commitment from HR that they will provide a response to these concerns by this week.

Riteq Implementation at Leisure centre
The ASU will visit members to discuss any concerns they may have with the implementation of the Riteq logging on/off system.
ASU meetings have been organised for both Sunshine and St Albans. If you are unable to attend these meetings please contact ASU organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio on details below to discuss concerns.
The employer has confirmed that the intention is to only implement this system in areas which are heavily reliant on rostering. The ASU has in initial discussions with the employer raised the concerns regarding the invasive nature of the technology. The employer has disputed this as they have confirmed that the system does not scan an individual’s fingerprint.
The ASU has been made aware of the organisation relying on fixed term contacts within the home and community care team; we are interested to know how many employees currently employed on rolling contracts.

Make sure you are taking your breaks–
- When you work 4 consecutive hours, inclusive of travel time you are entitled to take one paid 10 minute rest break.
- When you work 6 consecutive hours inclusive of travel time you are entitled to a 30 minute unpaid meal break.
- When you work a 7.2 hour day, inclusive of travel time you are entitled to take two paid rest breaks.
