The ASU has forced Brimbank City Council to back down on a refusal to let the ASU on-site to hold discussions during Stage 4 restrictions in Victoria.
On Wednesday 5 August, ASU Organiser Will Wyatt attempted to gain entry to the depot to hold discussions with members about the Stage 4 restrictions coming into effect that night.
Will had provided appropriate notification before attending the site, however, was obstructed from entering by a Council employee. The ASU immediately filed a Right of Entry dispute in the Fair Work Commission.
Within 24 hours Council contacted the ASU to apologise for obstructing Will and agreed to work with him to ensure he can hold discussions with members on-site during Stage 4.
Only permit holders of Registered Organisations, like the ASU, have entry rights to hold discussions with you under the Fair Work Act 2009. Without those rights, your employer could block us at a whim. It is one of the things that makes membership of the ASU so valuable
The ASU has received confirmation we can hold discussions with members next week.
