On Thursday 22 June, the ASU wrote to Bass Coast Shire Council raising your concerns with the rollout of the proposed code of conduct, smoking, drug and alcohol policies. The rollout of said policies continued without all of our concerns addressed.
On Friday 30 June the ASU lodged a formal grievance in line with Clause 14 of Bass Coast Shire Council EBA. We were successful in halting the implementation of the policies in question, with a commitment for further discussions to occur based on the wording of these Code of Conduct Policy.
Discussions took place between ASU Organiser Colin Houghton, ASU Lead Organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio, ASU delegate Brendan Hill and Management on July 4. Council agreed to modify the policies in question and send through tracked change versions after General Manager John Wynen returned from leave. We are currently still awaiting copies of the revised policies as John is still on A/L.
Bass Coast Shire Dispute Resolution Clause is favourable to members in this instance, as it contains wording to the effect of “the status quo will remain until the dispute is settled” meaning that until this dispute is resolved the previous policies remain in place.
We will continue to discuss these policies with Delegates and management and when Council provides us with tracked change versions of policies, Organiser Colin Houghton and Lead Organiser Lorraine Di Pietrantonio will visit the workplace to obtain your feedback.
It is now more important than ever to become a member of the ASU. Speak to your colleagues about the benefits of becoming an ASU member and ask them to join at https://asujoin.asn.au/
