We understand that staff are receiving a lot of communication from Management regarding bargaining for a new Enterprise Agreement. CAFS Management has laid out several options for staff to consider and has asked for feedback on which option staff prefer. This is an information-gathering exercise for Management and does not constitute an official part of the bargaining process. Bargaining takes place between Management and your elected bargaining representatives, who will advocate for your best interests and take direction from members.
CAFS Management is required to enter bargaining in good faith—which means they need to be open to discussions. They cannot simply present a series of options and require that the ASU and its members choose one. Our advice is to view the options presented by Management as a jumping-off point. The result may be one of the options put forth by management, a combination of two or more options, or something entirely new. As a union member and worker, it’s YOUR decision on what kind of new Enterprise Agreement you are willing to accept.
Feel free to provide honest feedback to Management regarding the options they have presented. If you would like to show solidarity with your union colleagues, we suggest that you include some variation of the following phrase in your feedback to Management.
“I want CAFS to negotiate in good faith with ASU about all options and our log of claims”
