What should be one of the happiest times of the year has turned into a nightmare for many.
The bushfires in Victoria, NSW and Tasmania have taken a terrible toll so far, and are still a direct danger to many communities.
Our members are on the fire front and in the relief centres, doing all they can to ease the crisis.
To our members who are directly involved as volunteer firefighters, we salute you.
We send our most sincere thanks to all emergency services for the work you are doing to protect lives and communities.
Thank you also to our members who are delivering social and community services to those who have been displaced, crucially helping the recovery effort.
Members of our union deliver the services Australians rely on every day, and are working right across the fire-affected areas to keep communities going.
And to our members who have been directly affected by the fires, we stand ready to support you.
It’s a horrific start to the new year. Please take care and stay safe.
