ASU members and delegates working together have at long last got the matter of all staff on PPTI contracts getting full access to personal/carers leave resolved. This has been a protracted matter and well done to everybody involved. It is a big win for ASU members, and non-members yet to join their union! A special mention is due to the passionate library member who did lots of their own research and was unrelenting in pushing this issue all the way. See below for all the relevant details.
The ASU has also raised the matter of Occupational Violence in the workplace with the COM and what preventative measures can be put in place. The ASU is seeking further input from members on this important matter, please contact Sean McCourt via firstname.lastname@example.org
ASU will be issuing a newsletter shortly to all members and seeking items for the next Staff Consultative Committee meeting in November. A key item of particular interest to ASU delegates and officials is an update on Council’s use of temporary, Fixed-Term Employees, contractors, agency staff and secondment staff. At a recent staff induction attended by the ASU 15 of 16 new inductees were contractors/agency staff. Not OK COM! We will be working with delegates and members to turn this trend around.
