Hume put a proposed new enterprise agreement (EA) to ballot without in-principle agreement of the ASU. Results were solid – 74% NO and 26% YES!
This is a clear message from workers that the offer is unacceptable, and workers know they deserve a better EA and wage offer. It shows council should seek to reach agreement with the ASU and other unions. Congratulations to all ASU Delegates and Members on this win!
We’ll return to bargaining to try to genuinely reach agreement for your new EA. We want to stop the proposed KPI structure (an attempt to pay off workers to not exercise their workplace right to make WorkCover claims) and keep pressing other outstanding claims and LAWAs.
Meanwhile, our Protection Action Ballot Order (PABO) was approved by the Fair Work Commission (FWC). All ASU members will soon be asked to vote via ballot that will be mailed to your home address. For this to be effective all ASU members need to vote ‘yes’ in support of all protected industrial action activities.
If your details aren’t up to date with ASU office, you will not get a ballot. Details can be updated by contacting email@example.com / 1300 855 570. We’ll also be SMSing members this week to check.
Only ASU members can participate in the PABO voting process and in taking industrial action. Protected Industrial Action is most effective when the maximum number of members possible act in solidarity with each other and other unions taking action at the same time. Encourage non-members to join if they want to participate and get a better deal!
Remember, you cannot be disciplined for taking any of the actions. Review order from the FWC, including proposed industrial actions, here.
- Ballot open Wednesday 13 October – Wednesday 10 November 2021
- Early November 2021 – we’ll know if the Protected Industrial Action Ballot has been approved by the majority of the members.
- After that, ASU members can take any of the protected actions, provided ASU supply 3 business days’ formal notice to Hume. We will discuss at the relevant time in Delegates and Members meeting.
It’s imperative you keep checking your mail for your ballot and when you get it, vote ‘yes’ to all of the actions before returning it.
