ASU members from libraries across Victoria recently lobbied the state government at parliament hosting a drag storytime to MPs and together discussed how we can protect libraries as community spaces and stop the cancellation of further LGBTQIA+-friendly and family-friendly events at libraries.

We discussed both immediate actions that we could take to show our public support for these events, as well as what structural or policy changes will be required to both stop the cancelling of council-run LGBTQIA+ events and ensure staff are safe at work.
At next week’s meeting we will discuss resources for holding these events safely, and on structural solutions to ensure these events go ahead.
