Members attended a virtual meeting this morning to vote on the wage offer from CoM. The offer is as follows:


  • 2019 (Back paid) – 1.5%
  • 2020 (Back paid) – 1.5%
  • 2021 – 1.5%
  • 2022 – 1.5%
  • 2023 – 2%
  • 2024 – 2%

Other conditions:

  • the 2.5% sliding pay rise for Schedule A employees (Class 2 – 7), up to the midpoint, as at 1 July 2021
  • Class 1 Schedule A – salary to be moved to the midpoint of the band
  • Revised and additional parental leave as previously tabled
  • Additional volunteer leave as previously tabled
  • All other conditions that were agreed in the March 2020 discussions

Schedule A/AA
A Memorandum of Understanding is being negotiated that will commit by December 2021 to the introduction of a Remuneration Policy that will allow people to move through the Schedule A Salary Structure. This Policy will ensure that the review occurs annually, an appeal mechanism at which you can be represented by the Union and that consideration of whether you receive a progression payment takes into account issues like enhanced skills and qualifications and pay equality.

Members vote
Members voted on next steps this morning at a well-attended members meeting. A clear majority of members are in favour of the Union taking a formal ‘do not support’ position based on the ongoing Schedule A and AA issues. However, in recognition of the significant movement on issues like back pay the ASU will take a neutral position during the vote and will not actively campaign against the agreement. Aside from these considerations, we otherwise encourage members to make their own call on the merits of all factors, including length of the process to date, and the gains made with COM both on matters agreed in March 2020 and the last several weeks of highly intensive negotiations.

We commend the Delegates for their tenacity, strategising and all-around great collective representation of members throughout the process and to get to this position.

Next steps
The ASU will engage with management on final drafting issues early next week and we expect management will put the agreement out to vote in the coming weeks.
