As the recent snap lockdown has shown, Victoria is still grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic, and outbreaks are still possible.
And when an employer acts unfairly against a member of our union, the ASU will be right there by their side.
Recently, an ASU member used supporting evidence for their request to work from home due to the anxiety of Covic-19. Their employer used this evidence against them.
The employer used this evidence against them, standing them down and directing them to obtain a medical report from a Doctor of the employer’s choosing.
The employer forced the member to use their personal leave for part of the standdown.
But the ASU was by their side. After assistance from skilled industrial staff at the union, the worker had their leave recredited and is now making positive steps towards working from home again.
An employer cannot force employees to return to work from the office without any discussion or consultation.
If you believe your employer is forcing you to return to the workplace prematurely, speak with your ASU delegate or contact the ASU Member Contact Centre on 1300 855 570 or firstname.lastname@example.org
