ASU Members make a real contribution to the industries they work in. And Goulburn Valley Water ASU Delegate Steve Newham is no exception.
Steve is representing the whole union movement as the ACTU’s representative on the Water Pipes Working Group.
The Water Pipes Working Group is a consultative mechanism to develop a nationally consistent approach to managing asbestos cement water pipes.
The Water Pipes Working Group supports the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency’s aim to prevent exposure to asbestos fibres in order to eliminate asbestos-related disease in Australia.
It provides a forum to discuss an agreed approach on management of water pipes containing asbestos. It’s also the forum that will develop best practice guidelines for safe removal, transport and disposal of water pipes containing asbestos.
The ASU congratulates Steve on taking on this very important role, and we look forward to letting all members know about the work of the Water Pipes Working Group in the future.
