Today, the ASU lodged our community petition with your General Manager in accordance with the requirements in the Local Government Act 1993.

Our petition, signed by 527 people, calls on Council to reverse the decisions which led to the proposal to close or restructure significant portions of the community and arts sector of Council.

Two-thirds of the signatories to the petition come directly from the northwest of Tasmania.

Locals are calling on Council to maintain these jobs and to retain these services in-house.

Whilst we believe the decision has already been made, we’re calling on Councillors to look at other ways to save money and to start thinking about employees as their greatest asset, not the biggest liability.
