We, your representatives, are negotiating hard to improve wages and conditions. We are pursuing your claims for decent wages, career progression that is fair and a reasonable work/life balance. Currently, our negotiations with management are at an impasse. We know that people at Gippsland Water care for the community and go the extra mile in an emergency (remember the Moe boiled water crisis). Skills, knowledge and effort ought to be recognised and encouraged. The Victorian Government has a wages policy that is based on the philosophy of encouraging innovation and excellence in public sector provision of services which is what Gippsland Water employees have demonstrated during the difficult times of this pandemic.
What is next?
We do not recommend voting yes for the current management position of a 2% wage increase per year for the life of the new agreement. It does not recognise or reward your efforts, and it will dramatically impact progression through your band. We will continue to negotiate for a reasonable offer and will strive that your patience in bargaining is compensated.
