In-home aged care services delivered by councils have kept vulnerable older people safe at home through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Recognising the importance of their work and the vulnerability of their older clients, Community Care delegates wanted better support from their employers to accesses the coronavirus vaccine.

Delegates wanted

  • 1 hr paid time to attend a vaccination
  • Kms to be paid
  • Travel time to be paid

The ASU sent a letter to all councils that provide aged care services, amplifying delegates’ requests.  The letters also added that carers need to be paid if they get sick from an adverse reaction to a vaccine and need to stay home.

Some employers are trying to shift the burden onto employees, ignoring the outstanding work of community carers since the pandemic began.

Congratulations to those councils who have done the right thing and heeded the call of ASU delegates for greater support to access vaccination.

Below is a list of councils that have done a good job supporting community care workers and a list of those that have not. Councils that are yet to respond are also listed.
