The ASU and your delegates attended a City of Melbourne Staff Consultative Committee Monday 25 May.

The CEO gave an updated presentation on what other actions that CoM is proposing in regard to the COVID-19 Crisis.

Council is still honouring their commitment that they will not stand-down staff.

ELT has been working on a plan this past few weeks to redeploy staff and find alternative duties, with this time frame extended from the 29 May, as other areas of Council opens to the public within the State Government Guidelines. Staff will be paid as normal during this planning process.

The ASU has put forward the proposal that Libraries can reopen for staff, with risk assessments and SOPs done. This will enable those Library staff with no other alternative duties to return to the workplace. Consultation with HSRs/Delegates continues with the limited reopening of Libraries to the public in the next few weeks.

The CEO updated the committee on a number of other projects that will be happening at the City over the next few months which will create more job opportunities.

The ASU raised the EA voting process for the proposed in-principle agreement, with CoM Management responding that they are not in a position to proceed at this time.

CoM have indicated that they are looking at a savings of around 19 million. They have agreed to give a further presentation on this matter at the next Consultation Committee meeting.

On-Street Compliance Services; for members taking up the secondment positions with DHHS, it is important to remember that your industrial matters are still covered by the ASU during this period.

If you are going through any financial hardship or have little entitlements to cover reduced work time, please raise these matters with your manager.

The ASU is also ensuring that we, and your delegates, are being consulted during this difficult period.

We still have a long way to go over the next few weeks, so speak to your ASU Delegates and encourage non-members to join the ASU which is fighting hard for everyone.

Please circulate this newsletter to all other staff members and put on your notice boards and in your lunchrooms.

The ASU is, as always, BY YOUR SIDE.
