The ASU and your delegates have been having meaningful consultation and negotiations with City of Hume management over the past few weeks to avoid any standing down of staff.

The ASU has reached agreement on several matters during this unprecedented crisis.

Staff in Leisure Centres, Libraries and some other departments, which have been closed to the public due to the Government restrictions, will now have better options to keep them regularly employed in a range of alternative duties, whilst the crisis continues. The next group rotation has taken place in these areas.

With the State Governments lifting some restrictions, this has meant that Libraries, Leisure centres and some other community services, will start reopening to the public with limited opening hours and facilities. This has to be done in consultation with HSRs and Delegates, who will need to sign off on all completed risk assessments.

Whilst we welcome this major change from the State Government, HCC still has a duty of care towards all employees. The ASU, and your delegates, will continue to work together with HCC and will have regular meetings over the weeks and months ahead.

Hume has been successful in its application in obtaining funding through the Working for Victoria program. The ASU will be having face to face induction meetings with these new staff who will be engaged for a period of 6 months. It is important to note that any casuals that have been let go by HCC, will be able to apply for these roles direct through Council, and the ASU have asked that Council does inform casuals of this opportunity.

Working for Victoria Program positions are not to be used to fill existing roles/or work which is normally been done by Council employees.

The ASU is also ensuring that your delegates are being consulted during this difficult period.

Please still continue to send any other suggestions for other alternative work to HR and your delegates.

We still have a long way to go over the next few weeks and months ahead, so speak to your ASU Delegates and encourage non-members to join the ASU which is fighting hard for everyone.

Please circulate this newsletter to all other staff members and put on your notice boards and in your lunchrooms.

The ASU, as always, is BY YOUR SIDE
